Johan Macaraeg is a film composer based in Los Angeles, CA, and originally from Manila, Philippines. He has an extensive background working on features and short films across the USA, Europe, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Beyond composing, he has orchestrated for projects on Netflix and Disney+. His music has accompanied films showcased at the Cannes Film Festival, recognized by the Television Academy, and screened at Oscar-qualifying festivals like the LA Asian Pacific Film Festival & Rhode Island International Film Festival — in addition to scoring a feature that earned him a Luna Award nomination from the Film Academy of the Philippines, considered the Oscars counterpart in the country.
His musical training includes a Bachelor's Degree in Music Production from De La Salle-College of St. Benilde in the Philippines. He has also studied composition and orchestration under the mentorship of esteemed composers/orchestrators such as Pete Anthony, Garry Schyman, Christopher Young, and many more. Johan earned his Master's degree in Screen Scoring at the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music.
Johan continues to collaborate with creatives and storytellers to craft distinctive scores for film, TV, and visual media. A voting member of the Recording Academy and part of the Society of Composers & Lyricists, he is driven by the power of musical storytelling and the shared vision of the filmmaking process.
