About
Johan Macaraeg is a film composer based in Los Angeles, CA, and originally from Manila, Philippines. He has an extensive background in working on various features and short films shown at prestigious film festivals such as the Cannes Film Festival. He has also created scores for projects that span multiple countries like the USA, UK, Canada, Taiwan, and the Philippines. Johan has also been nominated for a Luna Award by the Film Academy of the Philippines which is considered the Oscars counterpart in the country. Additionally, Johan's music has been recorded at a number of studios including Silent Zoo Studios in Glendale, CA, and the Warner Bros. Eastwood Scoring Stage in Burbank, CA.
His musical training includes a Bachelor's Degree in Music Production from the De La Salle-College of St. Benilde in the Philippines and participation in the BMI/NYU TV Scoring Summer Workshop as a part of the 2020 cohort. He has also studied composition and orchestration under the mentorship of esteemed composers/orchestrators such as Pete Anthony, Garry Schyman, Christopher Young and many more. Johan has since obtained a Master's degree in Screen Scoring at the prestigious USC Thornton School of Music.
He continues to write music for film, television, and other forms of visual media. He is passionate about the art of storytelling through music and the collaboration brought about by the filmmaking process.
